I heard once from someone that the real reason they appreciated "goth/emo/rock or whatever" fashion & genre was because they didn't put on a fake smile or pretended to be happy. They expressed the way that they felt (which was mainly being alone) but they never intended to hide away their emotions from other people. If they hated you then they did, if they loved you then they showed it, same goes with being upset. (even though now its being taken a joke with all of the "scene kids") it still hold some sort of value towards some people.

i actually think sometimes more creative people have a harder time keeping that mask on. i know it takes a LOT of energy and effort for me to fake being happy, or to fake smile if i need to, and i absolutely fucking hate doing it. but at the same time, it's hard to show some of the more difficult emotions in public. this is when the 'stoic' mask comes in handy. ooh boo hoo.

joking about emo/scene is people making fun of other people for being sad, which really.. if you think about it.. isn't very nice. the only time it frustrates me is when a) they're really not depressed or b) they're absolutely mean horrid people anyway.

But isn't it harder to show what you're really feeling? Because its like exposing yourself to people you don't know & if they have something to say they're really saying something about you personally?
